Here are some tips on hosting a fall dinner party in an affordable way.
We did ours outside because there was more space and it felt more free. Decide where you’re hosting and how many guests you want to serve. We had 8 including the hosts. I feel like this is the perfect amount – it feels full, but you’re not making 100 pounds of food.
We wanted a menu that was fall-ish obviously, but it had to also be easy to cook while hosting and accommodate different dietary restrictions.
It didn’t feel quite right to be full on red, white and blue this year. I decided to do a tropical theme and integrated some stars for tradition.
I tried to stick to turquoise/green, pink, white and silver/gold decor. I hung up star and tropical garlands. And found a cute pink flamingo.
I’ve always loved the vibes of the Swedish celebration of Midsummer to commemorate the first day of the season. I decided to try my own version this year. I did my best to research what actually happens in Sweden, hopefully I didn’t butcher the holiday too much.
We usually host a party or at least a pre-game every year for the best Spring holiday of all – St. Patrick’s Day!The key is to make EVERYTHING green and get outside as much as you can.

Pretty much every season we do a beer tasting party with our friends. It’s a fun drinking activity that feels like you’re doing something more sophisticated than just chugging beers.
PICK A THEME. The most important part! Since we do them seasonally – that’s usually the theme for us. So summer beers – the quintessential summer flavors or labels. In Michigan, that would Oberon type stuff. My favorite is fall – we do pumpkin beers and carve pumpkins. We also do a Christmas beer tasting – this one is fun because there are a lot of holiday related beers with cool labels. You could do other themes like Michigan (or local) beers or the type of beer (IPAs, stouts, etc.)
I planned a 1960’s themed party this year for New Year’s Eve! It was fun to find some actual vintage items and re-create the vibes with other normal New Year’s stuff.
